Every week, I have a live Q&A webinar with clients in my 12 Weeks to Transformation groups. This past week, there was an obvious theme to the questions that came up: guilt.

In today's episode, we're talking about guilt that stems from the story we create around our choices. We unlock a powerful truth: you create the story. You can always create a new one. You are the master story teller and meaning maker in your life.

As you create these stories are food, alcohol, relationships, workouts or anything else - how do you feel? How do you feel when you believe those thoughts? Do you want to continue to endorse that belief?

In today's episode I'm sharing part of the challenge I gave my clients. I had them do 3 things:

  1. Identify a story that isn’t working and/or doesn’t reflect what you want
  2. Define a new story
  3. Practice the new story daily in both thought and action

We have so much to celebrate this week! We're closing in on our 500th episode and it's also Primal Potential's 4 year anniversary!

The other day, I got a wonderful question via Instagram direct message. Here's what it said:

"You’re younger than I am and you have your stuff figured OUT!!! How did you get to the point where you stopped binging, stopped making excuses and got consistent?"

I still make excuses. I just have a practice of challenging them and demanding of myself the whole truth.

I read an amazing book called You Are The Placebo and it came to mind immediately when I got a couple of critical comments about episode 490 of the podcast. That episode garnered over 400 emails, text messages, direct messages & social media comments from people who found it helpful and inspiring. It also garnered two critical comments from listeners. Both felt they needed to inform me that depression isn't a choice. Interestingly, I agree and never said it was. I do, however, believe that in every circumstance, we DO have power to create change.

Getting out of debt changed my life. I had no idea that working towards a financial goal would have such a profound impact on health, motivation and fitness, but it did. Some of the biggest lessons I've learned in life came from getting out of debt.

The same is true of working out. Building a habit of going to the gym and embracing fitness has taught me lessons about hard work, consistency and stepping out of my comfort zone. Many of these lessons have come directly from CrossFit and while they were learned in the gym, they've changed my life outside of the gym!

Change can be hard. It can be frustrating. It can feel lonely. For much of my life I felt exhausted by work I hadn't even yet done...I felt like the road ahead of me was impossible. I have no doubt that those feelings contributed to depression & isolation.

I could absolutely still choose that perspective. I could choose to upset myself by fixating on what I don't yet have, on how far I have to go, on the gap between where I am and where I want to be and the work I'll have to do to change.

Fortunately, I choose a dramatically different perspective and my new perspective makes change dramatically easier and prevents me from experiencing depressive symptoms.

Like many of you, I've been moved by the recent high profile celebrity suicides. In today's episode, I'm talking about pleasure, pain, joy and depression. Even if depression isn't something you're struggling with, this episode might help you help someone you love.

Last week, I had a powerful call with one of my Primal Potential Masters Club friends. We were talking about how she wanted to rebrand herself. We're doing this to give us a great sense of certainty & direction that will help in all our many moments of decision making.

Hotel behemoth MGM recently decided to rebrand themselves. In their video, they clarify their new brand: "We're not in the hotel business. We're in the holy sh*t business".

Having that clarity in their brand makes all their decisions easier. As they decide what should be in their lobby, what the guest rooms should look like, what their restaurants should serve and which books they should act, they will be guided by their brand: we are in the holy sh*t business.

I don't watch much television but I really enjoy Showtime's Billions.

On a recent episode, Wendy Rhoades, an in-house psychiatrist for a prominent hedge fund, is counseling a one of the firm's executives.

The executive is struggling because the firm profited from a major disaster. It was a moral struggle and a question of right and wrong.

Wendy was clear & direct. She said, when you're here, "mind the truth that makes you money".

I paused the show and wrote it down.

We find ourselves in all sorts of true moments. We want the cookies. A second glass of wine would taste amazing. We're tired. All true, right?

There are truths that take us in all directions. Truths that keep is where we are. Truths that move us forward. Truths that take us further from our goals.
